The Emory Libraries' Environmental Sustainability Committee (ELESC) supports Emory’s commitment to "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future” through decision-making centered in environmental sustainability.
Our charge is to provide leadership, guidance, and recommendations for:
Creating a library-wide culture of sustainability,
Developing green habits, and
Building resiliency.
The Emory libraries are uniquely positioned to develop environmental literacy and foster sustainable practices among not only the Emory community, but also all library users as well as the information profession. Our professional discourse supports the assertion that ongoing and considered response to our environmental impact is necessary to meet our professional obligations as a trusted and ethical resource to the public good. The Emory libraries also understand that to create a viable environmental sustainability plan, it must be economically sustainable and efficiently implemented.
